How ARC sources its material, licenses its own words, credits every portrait, and handles corrections and removals — in plain language.
ARC is built from the public record. Vital facts and dates are drawn from Wikipedia and Wikidata; portraits come from Wikimedia Commons. Every claim in an entry is sourced in its references, and every portrait names its photographer or holding institution and its licence.
We cite everything and fabricate nothing. Where a source is uncertain, we say so rather than invent one.
Entry text is written for ARC — original prose, not copied from any source — and released under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence (CC BY 4.0) unless an entry notes otherwise.
You are free to quote and reuse it, including commercially, provided you credit ARC and link back.
Portraits are used only under free licences: Public Domain, CC0, CC BY, or CC BY-SA. Anything more restrictive — non-commercial, no-derivatives, or all-rights-reserved — is rejected and never published.
Each entry credits the image’s author or holding institution, states its licence, and notes any modification we made, such as cropping to fit the frame. Copyright in every image remains with its respective holder.
ARC is an editorial reference work about people in public life. Portraits appear to inform and to identify — never to endorse a product or to imply that a person approves of anything.
We do not licence these images for advertising or merchandise, and a free copyright licence on a photograph does not transfer any personality or likeness rights of the person depicted.
We aim to be right, and to be correctable. Where a life is contested, we state the facts plainly and attribute them, without sensation.
If you find an error — a wrong date, a bad citation, a missing credit — tell us and we will fix it.
Every entry concerns a figure in public life and draws only on information that is already public. If you are featured here, or represent someone who is, and you would like a correction, additional credit, or removal, write to us and we will respond promptly.
